Amid the border standoff with China, Power Minister R K Singh said that India will not import power equipment from China.
During a virtual press conference, he also asserted that the equipment import from China and Pakistan would not be permitted especially on the basis of inspection. He further said that State distribution companies should not give orders for supply of equipment to Chinese firms because there could be malware in those imports which they can activate remotely.
China has over the last few years been a major source of power equipment for India, with a share of roughly a third of the total imported machines in terms of value. Imports of these capital-intensive machines have been rising at a fast rate despite sufficient domestic capacity and India being a serious exporter of such equipment.
R K Singh also said that this huge import of power equipment is something they cannot take and everything is manufactured in our Country but India imported 71,000 crores worth power equipment including RS 21,000 crore from China.
